I have just completed a training series. This topic area came up as one that is regularly difficult to assist people with a range of disabilities and abilities to understand.

There are many resources on

Voting? Understand how to vote in Easy English.

Congratulations to the Australian Electoral Commission.

A recent posting from their website includes documents in Easy English on

These publications are based on work I supported the Victorian Electoral Commission develop  a number of years ago.



Check out the latest Easy English from the Victorian Electoral Commission.



The NSW Electoral Commission also used these publications to develop new ones for their jurisdiction.

What is Literacy




Spend a few minutes watching these YouTube clips.

It reminds us all of the expanse of literacy in our society.

Think about its impact on an individual level, but also for society.

This second video confronts levels of illiteracy in our contemporary adult society.
This clip shows the data for America. However, don’t dismiss it - in Australia, we are confronted with similar percentages. ABS 2006 #4228. 46% or 7 million Adult Australians has non functional literacy. New data is due for release in October 2013. The newest data highlights 44% or 7.3 million Australians have non functional literacy.
